Overall, Texas dominated with five restaurants, followed by New York and California, which each had four.
But the local eatery made the cut thanks to “its unabashedly Southern- and Southwestern-influenced Mexican dishes.”
"This Georgia mini chain has become a near institution," Food & Wine editors wrote. "That border-straddling cooking translates to ingenious tacos with fillings like fried chicken and smoked brisket, and accompaniments including spicy jalapeño coleslaw and tequila barbecue sauce."
This isn't the first time Taqueria del Sol has been recognized. Atlanta Magazine featured it in its "50 Best Restaurants" ranking, and The Daily Meal gave a nod on its "Best Mexican Restaurants" list.
Founded by Eddie Hernandez, a chef from Mexico, and Mike Klank of Memphis, the taco spot has several locations throughout the metro Atlanta and Georgia area including in Intown, Decatur, Chamblee and Athens.
