Last week, beauty expert Deepica Mutyala had the unfortunate experience of hosting a live beauty segment that went horribly wrong.

Mutyala, serving as the on-air beauty pro on a Today Show segment titled "One-minute summer hair," fumbled while styling a black woman's natural hair.

The model’s hair, which was supposed to have been styled in a high ponytail with bangs, ended up looking windblown and ragged, as if it had not been styled at all.

The video of the segment went viral and drew comments ranging from criticism of Mutyala and her hair styling skills to criticism of the "Today Show" for promoting someone untrained in hair care for black women as an expert.

Popular black hair care blog Black Girl Long Hair wrote a harsh criticism of the segment.

"While we commend the "Today Show" for their inclusivity in selecting the models for this segment, it’s clear Mutyala’s beauty expertise does not extend to the styling of black women’s hair," the blog said.

Mutyala took to social media with an apology:

This time around, Mutyala seemed to have more champions than critics. Many people were surprised to see an actual apology without the usual ton of excuses.

From most of the responses, it looks as if all is forgiven.
