“The Boondocks” is the latest reboot coming to TV.
Variety reported that the comic strip turned cult classic Adult Swim show is being re-imagined by Sony Pictures Television with original creator Aaron McGruder's involvement.
The studio made the announcement Wednesday at the 2019 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, according to EW.com.
The cartoon is based on McGruder’s comic of the same name, which launched in 1996. The cartoon premiered on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block in November 2005 and included the voice talents of Regina King and John Witherspoon.
King did the voices of brothers Huey and Riley Freeman. Witherspoon voiced the children's grandfather, Robert Jebediah "Grandad" Freeman. The show, based in the fictional suburb of Woodcrest, gave a comedic and -- at times controversial -- satirical view of issues. The new version will be "a satire for the modern era," EW.com reported.
The show initially ran for four seasons, the last of which had no involvement from McGruder.
It has not been announced when the show will start production or on what network it will air.
