“This is a long time in the future,” she said. “We both decided that that would be best.”

“She lives in Boston now and I live here in New York. It’s been a long-distance thing. It’s been great. I think she’s a wonderful woman,” O’Donnell said of Rooney, 33, who is an Army veteran and works as a police officer.

“She’s very much an equal, she’s very much her own person and loves what she does. She’s a pretty unbelievable young woman,” she said.

Rooney hinted at an engagement with O'Donnell on social media. Radar Online reported on Oct. 12 that Rooney added an "R" and engagement ring emoji to her Instagram bio.

The couple went public in November 2017. O’Donnell was previously married to Michelle Rounds, who died of a reported suicide at age 46 in September 2017. O’Donnell has a 5-year-old daughter named Dakota from that relationship.

O’Donnell has four other children with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter-O’Donnell: sons Parker, 23, and Blake, 18, and daughters Chelsea, 21, and Vivienne, 15.
