Cobb students write about the color of their shadows
A Cobb teacher is facing termination after reading students a book called "My Shadow is Purple." The main character in the book is a child whose shadow isn't blue or pink. After reading the book, the fifth grade students drew their own shadow and wrote poems about what color it is.

Fifth grade students drew portraits of themselves (which have been redacted) and wrote poems about the color of their shadows, after reading a book called "My Shadow is Purple," which challenges gender norms. Their teacher is now facing termination, after a parent complained about the book's subject matter. Scans of the completed assignments were provided by the Cobb County School District per an open records request by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
