A Gwinnett County man said he was surprised to see an unmarked SUV with flashing blue lights in his driveway, but as far as he knows, it did not belong to a police officer, he told Channel 2 Action News.

Leroy Garcia spotted the SUV with a light bar on its roof on his home surveillance system last Friday about 5:45 a.m. He reported the strange vehicle to police, who have not been able to identify it as a law enforcement vehicle, Channel 2 reported.

"To me it doesn't make sense that someone would put a police light bar on top of their car unless they're trying to imitate a police officer," Garcia said.

Gwinnett County police confirmed to the news station a detective is looking into the incident on Abinger Lane near Lawrenceville. It is a misdemeanor offense to put blue lights on a vehicle unless that vehicle is operated or authorized by law enforcement or a state agency.

So far, the driver of the SUV has not made contact with anyone in the neighborhood, according to Channel 2.

Garcia said he will be wary on the road because the driver’s intentions are unknown.

"You don't know who's going to pull you over," he said.
