Delta's revamp of terminals at New York's airports continues

Delta and other airlines have sparkling new terminals at New York's LaGuardia Airport. Delta is also upgrading facilities at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, and the refresh continues at both airports.

New York is a top destination for Atlanta residents, and Delta Air Lines has a domestic hub at New York's LaGuardia Airport and an international hub at John F. Kennedy International Airport. At JFK, Delta recently opened a newly renovated check-in lobby.

Delta moved out of JFK's Terminal 2 and consolidated operations onto Terminal 4 as of Jan. 14, 2023. The airline opened 10 new gates on JFK's Concourse A as part of the consolidation. By this fall, Delta will expand Concourse B to 28 gates. It will open a new Sky Club on JFK's Concourse A this summer, and a club for Delta One business class customers in early 2024.

New York's LaGuardia Airport has been undergoing a years-long, $8 billion modernization. This is the security checkpoint at Delta Air Lines' Terminal C that opened in June 2022. Atlanta-based Delta has invested billions into its hubs in New York.

The centralized Delta check-in lobby at LaGuardia opened with 34 check-in counters and 49 self-service kiosks, and dynamic screens in back.

Delta's Terminal C at LaGuardia includes a "direct-to-security" drop-off option -- a separate curbside check-in building with a pedestrian bridge that goes to the upper level security checkpoint.

The security screening area at LaGuardia Airport's Terminal C has posts with digital displays indicating wait times in security lines for general screening, ADA assist, Sky Priority, PreCheck and Clear members.

In Delta's Terminal C open since June 2022 at LaGuardia, the lower-level baggage claim area has art with scenes from New York's five boroughs.

When Delta's full four-concourse terminal at LaGuardia is complete by the end of 2024, Terminals C and D will consolidate into one facility with 37 gates across the four concourses.

Another major construction project at LaGuardia Airport was the $4 billion redevelopment of Terminal B, home to Southwest, American, United, JetBlue and Air Canada. Southwest is the second-largest carrier at Hartsfield-Jackson.

Terminal B's final two gates and taxiway were completed in July 2022. The old terminal building was torn down in early 2022.

The $4 billion Terminal B redevelopment was managed by LaGuardia Gateway Partners, and is one of the largest public-private partnerships in U.S. history.

"This is a whole new LaGuardia," said New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in a written statement when Terminal B opened in 2022.

"From a passenger point of view, the old LaGuardia is no more. We have gone from worst to best, something no one thought was possible when this project began," said Rick Cotton, New York and New Jersey Port Authority executive director, in a written statement when Terminal B opened in 2022.
