The School of Nursing in the College of Health at Clayton State University will host its 2015 Graduate Research Symposium, on Friday, May 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Harry S. Downs Center.
The symposium will be held along with the Sigma Theta Tau, Inc., consortium and the School of Nursing will be collaborating with Georgia State University and Mercer University for the consortium.
This year’s theme is “Multidisciplinary Synergy for a Healthier Tomorrow through Practice, Policy, and Research” and the symposium is open to all interested parties.
The Symposium will feature speakers from different disciplines from several universities in Georgia. Included will be Dr. Toni Miles, a physician, and Dr. Amara Ezeamama, an epidemiologist, both from the University of Georgia, discussing Medicaid expansion in the south and Schistosoma infection. Practitioners that will be speaking are Dr. Lena Gould, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Daniel Gellar, a Nurse Practitioner and a Clayton State graduate. Dr. Lanelle Bellury of Mercer University will present on “Synergy through Research Collaboration in Cancer Survivorship Research” and Dr. Victoria Foster of Clayton State University (who is also directing the Symposium) will present a Patient Panel. Dr. Nancy Kropf, a social worker and Georgia State University professor, will discuss “Older Adults and Evidenced Based Interventions. Dr. Zan Tims, an Emory physician, will discuss “The Challenges of Enrolling Patients in Clinical Trials.”
The keynote speaker will be Sister Callista Roy, a nursing theorist who has authored several books. She will be speaking on “Nursing Knowledge: The Synergy for a Preferred Future for Healthcare.”
