A Kia worker in LaGrange died Tuesday while maneuvering a crane carrying a heavy load of steel.

Neither Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which is investigating, released the worker’s name. A co-worker said the man worked in the stamping department on die maintenance when he was crushed by steel.

Kia, which makes Sorentos, Optimas and other autos for Hyundai, cancelled second and third production Tuesday. All shifts are set to resume Wednesday.

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of one of our team members,” Kia said in a statement. “While the details of the incident are under investigation, our thoughts and prayers go out to the team member’s family, friends and fellow team members. Out of respect for the privacy of the team member’s family, no further information will be provided at this time.”
