UPS Supply Chain Solutions is paying $95,000 to settle a claim with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The settlement comes after UPS supervisors in California denied a deaf employee access a sign language interpreter, in violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act.

In California, UPS Supply Chain Solutions will take additional steps to accommodate deaf employees, including investigating any discrimination complaints and conducting sensitivity training.

“We commend UPS SCS for recognizing that workers with disabilities have the right to the same benefits and privileges of employment enjoyed by those without disabilities, and for working to provide effective accommodations in the future,” Anna Park, regional attorney for the EEOC’s Los Angeles District Office, said in a statement.
