The UPS Foundation pledged $1 million in in-kind transportation and other relief for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

The 8.9 magnitude earthquake, which happened Friday, disrupted UPS service in some parts of the country. The Sandy Springs-based company is coordinating with relief agencies such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army as it determines the needs of victims.

In addition to transportation for emergency supplies, UPS is offering financial support and humanitarian logistics workers. The company said it is trying to determine if its planes can reliably use Narita Airport outside Tokyo.
