UPS has added “standard” ground delivery for packages going to the United States from Mexico.
The Sandy Springs-based package carrier previously only offered premium, faster “express” and “expedited” services from Mexico.
The new ground service will be a lower cost option for Mexican customers. Eighty-five percent of that country’s total exports are bound for the United States, according to Griselda Hernandez, UPS’s manager in Mexico, which was why UPS wanted to add the additional service.
The market opportunity for ground shipping between the United States and Mexico is in the multi-billion dollar range, UPS added.
UPS has operated in Mexico for 20 years, and now has network with 70 facilities and more than 2,000 employees.
