Travelers headed to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport should be extra cautious starting Thursday, when a detour on the roads to the domestic terminal will debut.

The airport announced that the detour on Airport Boulevard will be in place by 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Because of the new routing, drivers should obey the 25 mph speed limit and follow the signs for the detour. Travelers should also be aware that it may take a few extra minutes to get to the parking lots and terminal.

The debut of the detour for travelers coming to the airport from the North was delayed earlier this week by rainy weather.

The new routing will be in place from Thursday through April 2014, when the next phase of construction will begin. The $60 million inbound roadway construction project will continue until late 2014.

Once complete, the redesigned roadways will reduce traffic weaving and yielding, increase sight distance and allow more time for drivers to make decisions. The new roads will also separate traffic coming from I-85 from traffic coming from Camp Creek Parkway.
