The Transportation Security Administration wants to hire more than 200 part-time workers in Atlanta as Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport prepares to open its new international terminal next spring.

The agency needs more security officers for security lanes at the international terminal, which will create a a second entry point to the airport concourses.

The TSA plans to post the job openings at usajobs.gov later this week and TSA's Atlanta federal security director Mary Leftridge Byrd said she hopes to have the new employees on board by fall to be ready for the international terminal opening next year.

Byrd said she has requested approval for more than 200 openings and is awaiting word on how many she will get. The agency currently has about 1,000 officers in Atlanta.

The starting wage for TSA officers at Hartsfield-Jackson is $14.59 per hour. Part-time workers are eligible for health insurance, life insurance, retirement, paid vacation and sick leave. Job candidates must be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals and must pass a background check, among other requirements.

TSA officer Charles Gaetan said a customer service disposition is important for the job.

"Certain individuals are a little disgruntled about TSA," Gaetan said. "We look past that."
