Tractor manufacturer Kubota said Monday it will expand its operations in Hall County and create 650 new jobs over “several years,” according to a state news release.

The release, from Gov. Nathan Deal’s office, comes amid the final days of a governor’s race that has focused increasingly on jobs and the economy.

The Republican incumbent Deal has made his pitch to voters based on job creation and rankings by various publications that rank Georgia as the top state in the nation to do business. His opponents, including Democrat Jason Carter, have criticized the governor for a jobless rate that ranks at the bottom nationally.

The news release said Kubota will invest $100 million in the project and acquire 180 acres of land in the Gateway Industrial Centre in Hall as part of the expansion. Kubota nearly 2,200 employees in Georgia.

“Not only has Kubota become a flagship for other Japanese companies to locate to Georgia, but they continue to invest in our thriving manufacturing sector, utilizing our solid logistics infrastructure and creating quality jobs for our well-trained workforce,” state economic development commissioner Chris Carr said in a news release.
