These workplaces round out the top five in the large-company division of the AJC Top Workplaces 2015 Project

2. Woodward Academy

It’s another lofty placement for the reputable private school in College Park, with a secondary campus in Johns Creek. This marks the academy’s third consecutive runner-up finish, coming on the heels of back-to-back No. 1 finishes. The consistency can be attributed partly to employee benefits highlighted by 100 percent paid by the school. The 630 teachers and staff appreciate service projects that feature a canned food drive, a walk-a-thon for a boys and girls club, a sister school in Zambia and an effort to aid disadvantaged youth at a local elementary school. Woodward was host to a camp last fall where educators, attending free of charge, exchanged on professional development.

3. Virtual Properties

The real estate sales and service firm out of Duluth is booming, with a 23 percent increase in new hires and a 38 percent bump in properties sold. Projections are equally optimistic this year as five new offices are set to open. Emerging technologies to equip agents is an ongoing emphasis. A new plan provided agents with additional income when a recruit completes a closing. Staff are treated to special outings such as a spa and supper or to a casino. Birthdays are celebrated. A dinner/dance party toasts the end of the year. Members of the “million-dollar club” are feted at a banquet. A family atmosphere is stressed —- no easy feat in a company where agents are not technically employees.

4. Alston & Bird

A high-five for the law firm, which has landed on the honor roll for the fifth straight year. It also recently extended a longer streak with Fortune magazine, having been cited in its “best companies” compilation for the 15th year in a row. Atlanta is headquarters to the 122-year-old firm, with eight other offices. Communication with employees is a cornerstone, thanks to monthly meetings, bi-weekly emails from the managing partner and daily discussions. On-site meals are subsidized. Staffers are recognized for years of service, accomplishments, exemplary pro bono and community work, distinguished leadership and mentoring. An array of benefits includes paid parental and paternity leave, $10,000 for adoptions and $25,000 for fertility treatments.

5. CareerBuilder

The Illinois-based company that bills itself as maintaining the nation’s largest online job site maintains a strong presence in Atlanta, with about 625 employees. A re-employment initiative provides six-month paid internships in technology for about a dozen long-term unemployed folks. Support for Atlanta schools is ongoing. A recent mock interview event trained job seekers. Staffers are granted up to $5,000 annually to devote to costs toward a bachelor’s degree or certification and up to $10,00 for an MBA. High achievers are rewarded with all-expenses-paid vacations to resort areas. Flexible work arrangements are available, along with $400 for wellness perks that include home fitness equipment. Benefits also are offered for adoption, fertility and other needs.
