Columbus-based Synovus Financial said Monday four directors will not stand for re-election at the bank’s annual meeting, and the size of its board will shrink by two.

The retiring directors are: Aflac chairman and chief executive Daniel Amos, Jordan Co. Chairman Gardiner Garrard Jr., investor Elizabeth Ogie and W.C. Bradley Co. President William Turner Jr.

Joseph Prochaska, former MetLife executive vice president and chief accounting officer, and Catherine Allen, chairman and CEO of The Santa Fe Group, have been nominated to join Synovus’ board. The election will take place April 27 during Synovus’ annual meeting. The bank's board will shrink to 16 from 18 members.

Synovus is the parent company of community banks in five states, including Alpharetta-based Bank of North Georgia.
