SweetWater Brewing Co. recently broke ground on an expansion project expected to last 18 months and take the Atlanta brewery from 26,000 square feet to 110,000 square feet.

Last year, the company brewed more than 77,000 barrels of beer. It is on pace to eclipse 90,000 barrels this year. The expansion project is designed to quadruple its current brewing capacity by the time construction is finished by the end of November.

"It’s a pretty quick timeline," said spokesman Steve Farace.

The expansion will bring upgrades to packaging equipment. Plans call for added space for a new bottling and keg line, new lab space for quality assurance and microbiology and a separate event space above the packaging hall.
