Southern Co., the parent of Georgia Power and several other Southeastern utilities, announced several senior management changes Tuesday, including naming a new chief operating officer.

Kimberly Greene, president and chief executive officer of Southern Company Services, was named executive vice president and COO.

Greene, 47, will oversee generation, transmission, engineering and construction services, system planning and research and environmental affairs. She will also be responsible for Southern Power and Southern Wholesale Energy, two wholesale energy providers.

Greene joined the Atlanta-based energy company last year from the Tennessee Valley Authority, where she was chief generation officer and a former chief financial officer.

As COO, she will succeed Mark Crosswhite, 51, who will become president and chief executive officer of Southern’s Alabama Power subsidiary, where Charles McCrary announced his retirement from those positions.

At Southern Company Services, Greene will be succeeded by Mark Lantrip, 59, currently Southern Co.’s treasurer and executive vice president of finance and treasurer of Southern Company Services.

Xia Liu, 44, Southern Company Services vice president of finance and assistant treasurer, will succeed Lantrip as Southern Co.’s treasurer and will become senior vice president of finance and treasurer of Southern Company Services.

In a separate announcement, Southern said Linda Hudson, the retire president and CEO of BAE Systems Inc., has been elected to its board of directors. BAE is a global defense, aerospace and security company whose parent is based in London.
