I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying, “Too many books, too little time.” As an avid reader with a passion for buying books, that’s always been my challenge.

Between summer trips, walking the AJC Peachtree Road Race, family duties and work, I’m still only 179 pages into the biography of Mark Twain that I started back in June. (OK, I confess: I’ve snuck in a few murder mysteries.)

But as the editor of Pulse, I have another challenge. I call it, “Too many stories, too little space.” Every month, I encounter more health care news, engaging feature story ideas and tales of nurses and therapists doing interesting things at work and play than we have room to print.

Just like that towering stack of unread books by my bed, there’s a pile of health care information and stories on my desk that we could share with Pulse readers, if only we had the space.

Fortunately, we came up with an idea! Why not expand virtually? After all, there’s lots of room on the World Wide Web.

So, in October we’ll be launching Pulse Plus, a free, monthly e-mail newsletter. Just as the name implies, the newsletter will include links to the best stories from Pulse, plus more health care news you can use and more features to enjoy.

It will also be more interactive, with space for first-person accounts of your work experiences and comments about issues that concern you.

Regular features in the Pulse Plus newsletter will include:

Rapid Pulse: A quick read about what’s going on in the health care industry in Georgia.

Pulse Personal: A first-person account of your positive experiences in the workplace.

Pulse Profile: An insider’s look at professional leaders.

Pulse Monitor: News about licensure, rules and regulations.

Pulse by the Numbers: Fun facts, quizzes and historical snippets.

Pulse Talk: A chance for you to comment on workplace issues.

To provide all this content, we need your help. If you have any story ideas, news, notes or even want to write a first-person piece for our Pulse Personal feature, please give us a shout.

But there’s even more good news. When you register for Pulse Plus, you’ll automatically enter the Check Your Pulse contest. A randomly chosen winner will receive a $300 Visa gift card. You don’t have to be a health care professional to enter. The deadline is Sept. 30, and the rules appear on the contest registration page. The winner will be notified by e-mail no later than Oct. 31.

I invite you to sign up for Pulse Plus and enter the contest at ajc.com/go/pulsecontest. Then sit back and enjoy this month’s Pulse stories on rehab nursing, a boot camp for nursing students and a nurse-managed clinic with an academic benefit— with the assurance that more content is coming your way with Pulse Plus in October.
