Clarkesville-based Scovill Fasteners said it has filed for bankruptcy to facilitate the company's sale to Global SFI Holdings.

Scovill, a maker of closure products for the apparel and industrial markets, has 250 employees and dates to 1802 when it was founded in Waterbury, Conn.

The company said it will continue to operate as usual while in bankruptcy, and that no restructuring of its operations is planned. Scovill expects the sale of assets to be completed by June.

President and CEO Stewart Little said, "The purchase agreement contemplates continuation of our business and offers of employment to all our employees."
