Longtime Georgia Public Service Commissioner Robert “Bobby” Baker has a new job.

Baker will be joining Freeman Mathis & Gary, a Cobb County law firm, after he leaves the commission at the end of this month, the firm announced this week.

He’ll focus on strategic and regulatory advice for private companies and government, with an emphasis on energy and technology. He'll also do appellate work and mediation.

“Those who follow Georgia government know well Bobby’s reputation as a bright and innovative public official, with an unmatched reputation for integrity,”  managing partner Ben Mathis said in a release.

Baker is Georgia’s longest-serving utility regulator.

He won his first term in 1992, becoming the first Republican since Reconstruction to win statewide office in Georgia. Over the next 17 years, he earned a reputation as a rigorous watchdog at the PSC.  He chose not to run again this year.
