A protest for higher wages drew roughly 100 people today and ended with the arrest of 10 people who blocked traffic in front of a McDonald’s in Midtown.

The action, led by a coalition of community and worker groups, as well as unions, was among those in what organizers said were 150 cities as part of a campaign to push for a higher minimum wage.

Atlanta is one of about a half-dozen cities in which civil disobedience and arrests have been reported.

“I’m here because I have my principles,” said Joshua Collins, 25, before he was handcuffed and escorted to a waiting Fulton County van, the first of those removed from Ponce de Leon Avenue after stopping westbound traffic.

Collins said he has worked for two years at an Atlanta Burger King and makes $7.25 an hour. Moreover, he said he is permitted “at most” about 30 hours a week of work.
