Personal income in Georgia rose 2.5 percent last year after falling a similar amount in 2009, according to estimates released Wednesday by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Nationwide, personal income – salaries and property, mostly -- increased 3 percent on average. Georgia’s average income: $35,490, which placed the Peach State 37th among all states and Washington D.C. The U.S. average was $40,584.

New Mexico had the greatest rise in personal income (4.2 percent) and Nevada (.3 percent) the lowest.

Inflation, as measured by the national price index for personal consumption expenditures, increased to 1.7 percent in 2010 from 0.2 percent in 2009.
