A $35 million plant by Hyundai Dymos America -- expected to employ 300 people -- is planned at the Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia site near West Point.
West Point Development Authority project manager Dave Lyons was presenting the plan to the Board of Education on Thursday. The Board of Education, County Commission and West Point City Council will need to sign off on an agreement to allow the plant to be a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes project, meaning it will pay a set fee over a period of time instead of ad valorem property taxes.
The West Point Development Authority will issue the $35 million in bonds for the project and is set to approve the purchase at a special meeting Friday.
The plant will build seats for a new model of vehicle to be produced at the Kia plant, Lyons said. It eventually also will manufacture powertrains for vehicles produced there. The plant is expected to take two years to complete.
