Dayton, Ohio — The chief executive of NCR spin-off Teradata Corp. works in metro Atlanta, where Teradata's former parent plans to move its headquarters by the end of 2010.
But Teradata, a data warehouser that split from NCR in September 2007 as an independent company, has given no indication in recent filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it plans any similar relocation of its corporate headquarters.
NCR announced Tuesday that it will shift its headquarters from Dayton, Ohio, to the Gwinnett County city of Duluth and open a new plant in Columbus.
Asked whether Teradata is comfortable keeping its headquarters in the Dayton area for the foreseeable future, company spokesman Mike O'Sullivan said, "Yes."
Ohio Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher said he contacted Bruce Langos, chief operating officer of Teradata and a former NCR senior vice president. Fisher said Langos assured him Teradata had no plans to leave Dayton.
Greg Hanahan, administrator of Miami Township, the Dayton suburb where Teradata has its offices, said he has heard nothing unusual in recent conversations with company officials. Its presence helps the township to try and attract other high-tech companies — and its employees spend money locally, Hanahan said Tuesday.
"They shop here, they dine here," he said.
Teradata operates in more than 60 countries. It employs about 400 people in the Dayton area and more than 5,000 worldwide. Its network includes major operations in the Atlanta and San Diego areas, along with offices across the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.
The company's nearly 1,000 customers include airlines, banks, telecommunications companies, retailers, and package and freight companies. Its specialty is the process of capturing, storing and analyzing data through a system called an enterprise data warehouse for improved business insight.
Teradata reported net income of $45 million, or 26 cents per share, for the three months ended March 31, up from $42 million and 23 cents per share a year earlier.
