NCR pilots immigration forms on kiosks

NCR, the Duluth technology firm, started a pilot program for filing immigration forms at self-service kiosks.

The eGovernment kiosks were installed at five stores in Houston that provide non-banking financial services to the Hispanic population. The kiosks will have English and Spanish versions of five of the most common immigration forms. They will run ClearPath software, and ClearPath will charge between $25 and $100 per form. NCR has a revenue-sharing agreement with that company.

In a statement, NCR said the kiosks will make government processes easier and more cost-effective. Many immigrants now use non-attorney third parties, known as notarios, to assist in immigration filings. They can charge between $250 and $1,000 per form, the release said.

NCR said the new technology could help more than 12 million legal residents complete and file immigration forms, and that more than 100 million immigration forms are filed in the U.S. annually.

The company will continue with the pilot through the year, spokesman Jeff Dudash said. He called immigration forms a "fairly sizable and under-served market" and said NCR eventually envisions selling the hardware, software and services to interested buyers.
