Mortgage rates at another low

Average interest rates for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages dropped from 3.91 in April to 3.79 percent  for the week ending May 17, according to Freddie Mac, the government sponsored loan buyer and consolidator. Last year at this time, the rate was 4.61 percent.

Rates for 15-year fix mortgages was even lower at 3.04 percent. A year ago at this time, the 15-year rate averaged 3.80 percent.
