A development group plans a sprawling retail and residential complex, including a previously announced water park, near the Kia Motors factory in Troup County, about 70 miles southwest of Atlanta.
Atlanta-based Selig Enterprises and Southpoint Development said in a news release the project will straddle I-85 in LaGrange and cover more than 500 acres. It will include the previously announced Great Wolf Lodge hotel and water park, an open-air village town center and a separate retail outlet center. Hotels, offices, medical facilities and residences also are planned.
“We chose LaGrange because it offers tremendous opportunity and is an undiscovered gem with easy access to Atlanta and the airport,” Selig Enterprises CEO Steve Selig said in the release.
Selig, one of the city’s larger development groups, is perhaps best known for in-town projects such as the District at Howell Mill and 12th & Midtown.
Last month, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported about the new plans for a Great Wolf Lodge along Exit 13 near LaGrange. The project, which will include a 456-room hotel and an indoor water park.
The company has sought to build a resort in metro Atlanta for the better part of a decade, with earlier attempts at Lake Lanier and in Peachtree City.
The water park is expected to cost $170 million and create more than 600 jobs, officials have previously said.
