The Atlanta Marriott Downtown will be renamed DoubleTree by Hilton Atlanta Downtown on April 1 and will be renovated this year.

The 320-room hotel will be the first DoubleTree in downtown Atlanta, according to Interstate Hotels & Resorts, which operates the Atlanta Marriott.

The nine-story hotel at 160 Spring Street NW opened in 1962 and was the first racially-integrated hotel downtown. Singer Elvis Presley, former President Richard Nixon and singer Pearl Bailey have been among its most prominent guests.

The renovation will include a makeover of the lobby and front desk areas, and the addition of a new meeting space on the ground floor, Interstate said.

The DoubleTree by Hilton will be the ninth one in metro Atlanta. Others include hotels at Atlanta Airport, Northlake, North Druid Hills – Emory Area, Buckhead, Galleria, Marietta, Roswell and Alpharetta.
