UPS to service electronics in India

UPS soon will have a network of 130 warehouses where it can service electronics in India.

Called "field stocking locations," UPS has 700 facilities worldwide where it handles "post-sales" repairs and spare parts for electronics manufacturers.

In other words, if a cellphone breaks, customers can mail the phone to a stocking facility where UPS replaces the phone or parts and mails it back.

These field stocking facilities will be the company's first ones in India.

"Asia continues to be a global manufacturing hub and market research indicates Asia's contract logistics market could overtake North America's in the next five years," said Brad Mitchell, president of UPS Logistics & Distribution, in a statement.

In addition, UPS is opening a post-sales support center for Asia in Clark, Philippines.
