Tens of thousands of coffee and tea makers sold at Ikea are being recalled because the glass pots could shatter, flinging hot liquid and splinters of glass that can cause injury.

According to a news release, IKEA Home Furnishings is cooperating with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada to recall FORSTA Coffee/Tea Makers.

The defect involves the metal holder that is against the glass pot, which comes in 0.4 liters and 1 liter sizes. It’s a “press pot” with a black plastic top and handle. The coffee and tea makers were made in China and sell for $6 to $10.

About 94,000 have been sold in the United States and another 34,000 have been sold in Canada, the company said.

There has been only one report of a breaking pot in the United States and there were no injuries. But IKEA said there had been 19 reports from outside of the United States; 12 people reported burns and one reported lacerations.

The pots can be returned to IKEA for a refund. More information is available at 1-888-966-4532 or at online.
