Home Depot will close a Baton Rouge, La. customer support center next year, and move the jobs to Utah.
Home Depot spokesman Stephen Holmes said the 400 Baton Rouge employees would have the opportunity to apply for jobs at the new facility. Both hourly and salaried employees would be offered relocation assistance to move to Ogden, Utah, he said.
The Utah center will break ground in the coming weeks, and will employ 700 people. Holmes would not say what factors went into the Atlanta-based home improvement retailer's decision to move the jobs to Utah, but said that the new facility is an expansion of the work that was being done in Louisiana.
Employees there were primarily doing customer service for Home Depot's online business, he said.
The Utah facility is expected to begin taking calls at the end of next summer, Holmes said. The Louisiana one would stay open during the transition.
