Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed on Thursday plans to announce a major corporate expansion in the city.

A person with direct knowledge of the situation said the company is Kaiser Permanente, which plans a health care information technology center. The location of the facility was not immediately known.

Kaiser, under the code name “Project Big Chill,” is expected to bring 900 technology-related jobs to the city, according to a document from Invest Atlanta, the city’s economic development arm. The project is expected to be formally announced during Thursday meeting of the Invest Atlanta board.

A spokesman for the Kaiser did not immediately return a message seeking comment. Invest Atlanta representatives also did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

The board of Invest Atlanta, the city’s economic development arm, will consider a $300,000 grant for “Project Big Chill” through Atlanta’s Economic Opportunity Fund program. The company is also eligible for state grants and tax credits for new jobs created.

The expansion, described as a technology center, will involve a total corporate investment of more than $20 million. Jobs will have an average wage of $107,000, according to the Invest Atlanta document.

Earlier this month, a Kaiser spokesman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the company was scouting office space in the greater Atlanta area, but declined to say more.

Thursday’s announcement is expected to include Reed, Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Chris Carr, Invest Atlanta CEO Craig Richard and Metro Atlanta Chamber CEO Hala Moddelmog, according to a city news release.
