The president and CEO of Atlanta furniture company Havertys has been elected chairman of the board.

Clarence H. Smith will take over for L. Phillip Humann, who has been chairman since 2010. The former SunTrust chairman and CEO is now a lead director at Havertys.

Smith, who has been with Havertys for 38 years, has led the company since 2003. He is also a director of Oxford Industries and a member of the Marist School board of trustees.
