Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport issued its official request for proposals for the largest round of new concessions at the airport in its history, with plans to roll out new shops and restaurants in phases through early 2013.

The airport plans to award contracts for 27 retail locations  and 125 food and beverage outlets throughout the airport and for the new international terminal and Concourse F to open next spring. Proposals are due June 21 for food and beverage concessions and June 27 for retail concessions. Contracts will be seven or ten years long, with an option for a three-year renewal.

Hartsfield-Jackson had considered requiring that potential concessionaires have experience operating and managing locations at an airport, transportation center or mall, but the new solicitation broadens requirements for experience by also opening it up to those with such experience at street locations.

The airport plans to collect higher premium rent on sales that exceed revenue projections by 25 percent, in addition to regular rent.

Concessionaires at the airport can charge street prices plus 10 percent.

The airport’s goal for disadvantaged business enterprise participation in the concessions project is 36 percent.
