Hartsfield-Jackson to restart compost facility contracting process

April 2, 2015

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is hitting the restart button on the contracting process for an ambitious composting and recycling facility project called Green Acres.

The airport in February invited companies to submit proposals to design, build and operate a facility south of the fifth runway off Forest Parkway in Clayton County. The facility would compost and recycle airport waste as well as yard trimmings from the city of Atlanta’s public works.

But this week the airport told the companies interested in the project that it is cancelling the procurement process. Hartsfield-Jackson sustainability planner Liza Milagro said after receiving a “significant amount of questions” about the requirements, the airport is clarifying and revising solicitation documents and plans to reissue them in the next 30 to 45 days.
