Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has added bar codes to its advertisements in the terminal and concourses, allowing travelers to scan the bar codes and pull up concessions discounts on their smartphones.
The square "quick response" bar codes, more commonly known as QR codes, can be scanned using a special application on a smartphone, such as an iPhone or BlackBerry. When scanned, the codes link to a page on the airport's mobile website with discounts for certain concessions, including Savannah's Candy Kitchen and Atlanta Bread Co. Travelers can also pull up the discounts directly from the concessions page of Hartsfield-Jackson's website.
The airport hopes to eventually use the QR codes to help travelers find their way around the airport or get more information about art installations or concessions.
