The McDonald’s at Grady Hospital will close its doors after today, according to a spokeswoman for the medical center.

The restaurant, which has long served customers in the area on Jesse Hill Jr. Boulevard, told Grady it will close at midnight Friday. Grady said no reason was given for the abrupt closure.

“Grady is actively exploring a number of options for this location that best serve the needs of our patients, visitors and staff,” hospital spokeswoman Denise Simpson said in a release.

The Grady McDonald's location has been the subject of a protest by Washington, D.C.-based Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a medical group trying to encourage hospitals nationwide to dump fast-food franchises.

The group in early May erected three billboards around the downtown Atlanta medical center to encourage board members not to renew the fast-food restaurant’s lease, which is up for renewal this month.
