In the oft-arbitrary world of business climate rankings, Georgia comes in No. 36 nationwide for overall tax-friendliness, according to a report released Tuesday by the Tax Foundation.
A year ago, Georgia ranked No. 35.
The anti-tax, pro-business foundation, collects data from five categories — corporate, individual income, sales, property, and unemployment insurance taxes — and throws them into a blender to come up with the rankings. “States are punished for overly complex, burdensome, and economically harmful tax codes,” the foundation says.
Wyoming, without corporate or individual income taxes, ranks No. 1. New Jersey is No. 50.
Georgia earned a No. 8 ranking nationwide for its corporate tax structure, yet it’s individual income tax structure ranked No. 42.
Earlier this year, CNBC and Site Selection magazine bestowed No. 1 rankings on Georgia’s overall business climate.
