Charlotte Ayers, the president and CEO of Georgia’s Own Credit Union, will retire at the end of the year from the Midtown-based lender, the company said Monday.

Ayers, a 41-year veteran of the institution originally known as Georgia Telco Credit Union, served as president and CEO since 1999.

During her tenure, the credit union rebranded and grew from $600 million in assets to $1.56 billion in assets. The credit union also doubled its membership base to 160,000.

David Preter, executive vice president of Georgia’s Own, has been tapped as its next president and CEO.

Georgia’s Own has 23 branches, including locations in metro Atlanta, Savannah and Augusta.
