Winter weather in the Northeast was causing departure delays at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport Friday.

Flights to Newark International Airport were experiencing delays averaging 1 hours and 26 minutes, according to the FAA.

Traffic destined to La Guardia Airport in New York City were experiencing delays averaging 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Departure traffic destined to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York was experiencing delays averaging 2 hours and 48 minutes, the FAA said.

Delta and AirTran, the two main carriers flying out of Hartsfield-Jackson, were advising passengers that they could change travel plans without additional fees if they were flying to affected cities Friday and Saturday.

Delta "is offering customers whose flight plans may be affected by winter weather across the Northeast [Friday] and Saturday the ability to make one-time changes to their travel schedules without fees," Delta said in a statement. "Delta's weather advisory encourages customers to consider postponing or rerouting their travel to avoid possible inconvenience from expected flight delays.

"Customers booked on Delta-ticketed flights to, from or through the following states may immediately rebook for travel before or after their original travel dates as long as new flights are ticketed and rescheduled with travel beginning by Jan. 13:  New York,  New Jersey,  Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut."

AirTran said in a statement on its website, "Passengers who are traveling to, from or through the affected cities ... may adjust their travel dates one day prior or up to three days following their originally scheduled date of travel based on space availability, without change fees or fare adjustments."

The affected cities were Allentown, Pa.,  Atlantic City, Boston, Harrisburg, Pa., New York-LaGuardia, Philadelphia, Portland, Maine, and White Plains, N.Y.

Healthcare at College Park, a nursing home in Fulton County, GA, stands shuttered with its door chained on July 26, 2025, having closed in recent months. Researchers at Brown University developed a list of U.S. nursing homes they predicted were at risk of closing based on 2023 data, and would be at elevated risk of closing due to the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act's cuts to Medicaid. Healthcare at College Park was on their list. It survived past its last federal inspection in August of 2024 but has now closed down. The bill's biggest provisions will roll out over years starting Jan. 1. (Ariel Hart/AJC)
