The Federal Aviation Administration will move 330 employees southward to College Park from East Point in an office space consolidation that will save the agency $2 million in rent annually, the General Services Administration said Tuesday.

The GSA, which helps manage federal agencies, said the federal government has renewed an existing lease with the city of College Park for 217,313 square feet of space adjacent to the College Park MARTA rail station. City Manager Terrence Moore said the FAA Southern Regional Office, which now has fewer than 800 employees, is being converted to accommodate the additional workers by the end of 2015.

The FAA will lease the space, which is about a mile from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, for about $2.4 million a year.

The agency’s savings will come from not having to pay rent in two places. The GSA decided not to renew an expiring lease on a building in the Camp Creek area of East Point. The FAA has occupied the space since 1993.

GSA Regional Administrator Erv Koehler said the consolidation and decision to move employees nearer to Hartsfield-Jackson help fulfill a goal to “shrink the federal footprint and manage federal real estate more efficiently.”

The College Park renewable lease agreement allows the FAA to use the facility for up to 10 years.
