Getting a college education is important for many job fields, but not always necessary. These eight STEM jobs – focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics – let you earn $50,000 a year without a bachelor's degree.

What do they require in terms of education? Just a high school diploma, associate's degree or possibly some college courses.

An added bonus is that four of the eight are considered "hot" jobs of the future. That means the position has a faster than normal average job growth in Georgia, above average state wages, and at least 100 job openings expected each year through 2022.

1. Architectural/civil drafters: $51,600

2. Computer network support specialist: $63,900 (150 jobs expected per year)

3. Dental hygienist: $67,600 (370 jobs expected per year)

4. Diagnostic medical sonographer: $60,800
