A free certification training this month in food safety will help job-seekers find employment in the restaurant industry.

MUST Ministries is partnering with ServSafe, a nationally recognized food safety and sanitation program, to host the class. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 28 and 29 at MUST's Marietta location, 1407 Cobb Parkway N.

The two-day free training will cover basic food safety, guidelines for food preparation, holding, prevention of food-borne illnesses, cross-contamination, allergens, personal hygiene, cleaning and sanitation. Participants also will be awarded free safety shoes if the final exam is passed.

"(Employers) report that, if two candidates are equal, they will always select the candidate with the certificate to reduce training costs and increase worker safety," said Beth Ray, program director of Employment Services for MUST, in a news release.

Interested participants may pick up an application at any MUST location and also will need to complete MUST's four-hour Back-to-Work workshop to establish base-line employment skills. Additionally, applicants will need to complete an interest inventory and provide a copy of their resume, photo ID and social security number.

June 21 is the deadline for applications.
