Manufacturing in Georgia still hurting
Georgia manufacturers ended 2012 on a sour note, Kennesaw State University reported Wednesday.
The monthly Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) listed a 1.2 percent decline for December due largely to a slackening in new orders and manufacturing production, according to the school's Econometric Center.
Manufacturing employment, though, ticked up in December, as did finished inventory.
In all, the PMI slipped to 45.2 points in December. Anything below 50 points indicates a manufacturing industry in contraction.
Don Sabbarese, director of the Econometric Center, said the decline “reveals continued weakness for Georgia manufacturing. Even after considering a seasonal influence, Georgia manufacturing appears to remain soft as it enters 2013.”
