Delta Air Lines has resumed its normal flight schedule to Tokyo, after canceling nearly half of its flights to and from the city on Friday and Saturday due to the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan.

Delta canceled 29 of its Tokyo flights on Friday and 24 on Saturday, out of about 60 flights on a normal day. Its flight operations at Tokyo's Narita and Haneda airports were back to normal as of Sunday.

Delta, which operates a hub in Tokyo, has about 1,200 employees in Japan. The company said all of its employees there are safe and accounted for.

The U.S. State Department issued a travel alert in effect through this month, saying U.S. citizens should avoid travel to Japan at this time. However, Delta spokesman Anthony Black said the airline continues to see strong bookings. "We will continue to monitor the operating environment and make adjustments accordingly," he said.
