Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is discontinuing its flights from Atlanta to Hilton Head effective Nov. 3, saying it is difficult to make the route profitable.

Delta had discontinued the service last November as the turboprop aircraft used to serve the airport were retired, then resumed the route in March with different aircraft from its merger with Northwest. However, with the Hilton Head airport’s short runway, Delta said it had severe weight limitations that prevented it from being able to carry a full load on the flights.

The company will re-evaluate the route before the peak season next spring, said Delta spokesman Kent Landers.
