Kim Guthrie has been named the incoming president of Cox Media Group, the company said Monday, and will succeed longtime Cox executive Bill Hoffman, who plans to retire at the end of the year.
Guthrie is currently Cox Media’s executive vice president of national advertising sales and the head of Cox Reps, a national television advertising business. She will take her new role Jan. 1, and report to Cox Enterprises Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer Alex Taylor.
Cox Media is the publishing and broadcasting arm of Cox Enterprises, and in Atlanta includes The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, WSB-TV Channel 2, B98.5, News Talk WSB 750 AM and 95.5 FM, as well as national websites such as Rare.
“Kim has been with Cox for nearly 20 years and is an inspirational leader who has helped our media properties transform,” Cox Enterprises President and CEO John Dyer said in a news release. “She played a key role in the successful creation of Cox Media Group in 2008 and has been recognized as one of the media industry’s most influential leaders. She is a natural fit to ensure Cox Media Group continues to deliver innovative products and compelling news content.”
Guthrie, a former television news reporter, joined Cox in 1998. She previously steered all programming and content at Cox’s 59 radio stations.
Hoffman has been a fixture at Cox for 38 years. He took on the role of Cox Media Group president in 2013 and before that served as the group’s executive vice president of broadcasting and in numerous station management roles.
During his tenure as head of Cox Media Group, the company launched Rare and a number of niche web-based news and information websites.
“Bill has done a tremendous job leading Cox Media Group through a rapidly evolving media environment,” Dyer said. “As a leader, he has always embodied the spirit of our company. He’s inspired and valued employees, anticipated and driven change and been a true community champion in every city he’s lived. We are grateful for his leadership and dedication.”
