On Friday, and into the weekend, many shoppers are returning to the mall, considering returning those unwanted Christmas presents, or even spending those gift cards many received.

Experts say Dec. 26 is the biggest return day of the year.  In fact, they claim the average person returned four of their gifts last year. 

The personal finance website, GOBankingRates.com, came up with this of 12 stores with the best return policies:

  • COSTCO
  • Kohl's
  • LL Bean
  • Lowe's
  • Macy's
  • Nordstrom
  • REI
  • Target
  • The Home Depot
  • Toys "R" Us
  • Walmart
  • Zappos

The list is not a surprise to shoppers at a Target in North Carolina.

"They're good about it. If it's from Target, they usually know and they're pretty good about returning it," Jineen Kotwicki said.

  • whether you need a receipt
  • how long you have to return
  • how easy it is to return online purchases in the store
  • whether you get money, or just store credit

The group sent WSOC-TV an email, saying, "Your gifts -- however thoughtful they are -- are more likely to be returned this season than any other time of the year; give your friends and family the extra gift of an easy return process..."
